Which SPF is right for you?
You've probably heard a lot about SPF, and why it's important, but do you know exactly what SPF means?
SPF, or 'skin protection factor' is a measurement of how much sun protection a product will provide.
To determine which SPF is right for you, consider your skin color and how much time you will be spending in the sun.
If you choose an SPF of 15, you can be in the sun for about 2.5 hours without getting burned (SPF 15 x 10 minutes= 150 minutes).
If you choose an SPF of 45, you can be in the sun for about 7.5 hours without getting burned (SPF 45 x 10 minutes = 450 minutes).
An SPF 15 is the recommended minimum for those who are only in the sun a few hours each day. SPF 30 (or more) is recommended for those who work most of the day in the sun.
Sunblocks are going to be more protective than sunscreens; but most people don't like sunblocks because of their obvious, pasty appearance.
Be SPF smart and you'll protect your skin from freckling, age spots, premature wrinkling, blood vessel breakage, and, of course, skin cancer.
